What to bring

Chicago can be cold, very cold, yet our public transportation system is excellent and from the inn one is able to get easily from here to downtown. Do not over pack, but you will definitively need your heaviest winter coat or think of layering vests, sweaters and jackets together.

Clothing: Winter clothing, boots or waterproof shoes, gloves and hat or earmuffs.

Toiletries: In your room we provide bathrobes and slippers for your comfort - all bed linens, bath towels, shampoo, soap, conditioner, hairdryer are in your room.

Iron and Ironing board: These are either in your room or very nearby; there is also laundry available on your floor or in the basement of our building.

Materials: Do not over pack art materials, rather think about using this time to gather ideas, thoughts, to clear your mind and focus on your work.  There is no studio workspace for artists.   There are writing desks in room and in common areas of the inn.  A wireless printer is available for use with your laptop and wi-fi is available throughout the inn.

Camera: Bring a camera, it is easy to purchase film or memory sticks.

Computer: We provide wi-fi internet connection. There are many nearby coffee houses where you can also access the internet.  However, if possible, we encourage artists to "unplug" from daily routines, emails while in residence and concentrate on writing or research.

Phone: We provide a phone with free local phone calls. In order to make international phone calls you will need a calling card; although most cellular phone companies would offer plans for roaming in the USA and you may be able to use your own mobile phone.
